In these Charlotte Mason science lessons for grades 1-3, students progressively develop familiarity and friendship with Creation through practical observation, nature reading, and increasingly complex concepts. They explore habitats, biomes, and ecosystems while meeting a wide variety of creatures including insects, birds, plants, spiders, mammals, reptiles, and aquatic species through picture books, Nature Readers, and weekly nature excursions. Each week, students also record their observations in their Nature Notebook using prompts that coordinate with curricular content. Coordinating afternoon activities for all science lessons are provided in Outdoor Work, and all digital resources are included with every science lesson.
The multi-authored Charlotte Mason Centenary Monograph series is designed to highlight and explore the continuing educational and leadership relevance of Charlotte Mason (1842–1923) through the collective contributions of the Armitt Museum and Library, the University of Cumbria, the Charlotte Mason Institute, and other scholars and practitioners worldwide.
