History studies are the “pivot of the curriculum,” and all grades (with the exception of Grade 1) and many subjects, including art, music, architecture, and literature, coordinate with the year’s time period. Following Mason’s lead, students begin by learning their own national and cultural history and then gradually expand that study to learn about history across the world in times past and present. Because of the deeper integration of subjects starting in Grade 4, each set of lessons below includes History, Literature, and Poetry lessons. Literature lessons introduce students to mythology, historical fiction, beautiful stories to help children gain independence in lessons, Shakespeare lessons, a history of literature course in high school, and more. Daily poetry lessons introduce students to the delight of words and grow to include poetry study and writing and poems from the time period. See further details by grade below. These lessons connect to Alveary History Rotation 1: 800-1650 AD (Grades 5+ also study 3500-550 BC). Alveary 2025-26 membership does NOT include these lessons and instead includes history and literature lessons in History Rotation 2 (1650-1800AD and 550-100BC). **Consider purchasing other subjects such as Geography, Church History (in Bible), Picture Study, Architecture, and Composer Study to round out your studies of the time period.**
