Composition

Query: How can I make composition work on my timetable with the new composition/written narration plans that give two specific prompts for each week?

All the composition lessons for a given week are listed as options in the Written Narration/Composition lesson plans to provide maximum flexibility for you, since we know people won't schedule everything exactly as written. All the composition prompts for each week are also listed in each lesson in Syllabird for the week, so your student can simply add a comment or attachment letting you know which one they completed. Any composition prompts in the lesson plans are cross-referenced into that written narration/composition document, so you don't have to do the work of compiling them for yourself.

If you need to substitute a composition prompt because your student hasn't completed any of the lessons related to the given ones, try to substitute a similar concept (for instance, if a prompt asks a student to describe a scene in Evangeline from Poetry Reading, a good substitute would be to ask your student to describe a scene from a different book he has read that week and/or something he saw on a nature walk. Another easy substitution option is to ask your student to select a discussion question from a recent lesson and write about it during composition time.

Reminder: Be sure to check the Planning & Prep section at the beginning of the lesson plans. You will find teacher tips and great information about written narrations and composition!
